Longhorns' Stuart wins long jump in Winnemucca

Battle Mountain senior Blake Stuart wrapped the regular season by winning the long jump at the Don and Lynda Walton Invitational this past Saturday at Lowry High School in Winnemucca. He had a leap of 19 feet, 9 inches.

In addition, Stuart placed third in the triple jump at 38-9 and the high jump (5-10).

Joey Smith (10-0), Aden Jenkins (9-6), Edgar Sanchez Ruiz (9-0) and Joe Walden (8-6) were fifth, sixth, seventh and 10th in the pole vault. 

Alex Wall finished eighth in the high jump (5-2) and Julian Sosa leaped 29-7 in the triple jump.

Sophomore Andres Molina turned in a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 40-6.5 and fifth in the discus at 128-0-5. Kale Black placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 36-4 and Ben George was eighth in the discus (111-11-5).

Andy Wall earned a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 17.33 and was third in the 300-meter hurdles. 

Joey Smith placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at 49.29 to go with a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (19.04).

Eli Colver was fourth in the 3,200 meters, stopping the watch at 12:19.51 and he placed seventh in the 800 meters (2:22.34, Sean Doney finished fourth in the 1,600 meters (5:41.95). Elias Goodman placed seventh in the 10 meters at 12.18.

On the girls side, Jenna Chopp collected a runner-up finish in the shot put with a throw of 30-0.5 and was ninth in the discus (78-11). Lisette Haney placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 31-9, with teammate Lindsey Bleak one spot back at 28-5. Bleak also placed fifth in the pole vault at 6-0.

Olivia Lemaire placed third in the shot put with a throw of 28-5 and was seventh in the discus (80-5.5) and Divine Jacobson placed eighth in the shot put at 26-1. 

Addison Payzant finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-4 and Hailee Cook was ninth in the long jump (12-6.5).

Sonja Sherve (7:12.77) and Juliet LaRiva (7:21.37) were seventh and eighth in the 1,600 meters and Sherve was seventh in the 3,200 meters.

Battle Mountain travels to Sparks and Reed High School on Saturday for the Northern 2A trials.
