Lowry swimmers collect wins over Incline


After a couple weeks off due to spring break in Washoe and other Nevada counties, the Lowry High School swim team returned to action at Incline on Saturday, April 13.

The Buckaroo boys knocked off the Highlanders 63-35 and the girls won 117-64.

Four different swimmers won events for the boys, with Steven Camacho leading the way in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 25.62 seconds. In addition, Camacho placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (29.47).

Kelsen Sisley won the 100-yard backstroke, stopping the watch at 1:40.26 and he was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (33.00).

Garrett Jensen came home with the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:27.61 to go with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:46.76.

Tanner Hatch beat Incline’s William Arrison by .03 seconds (27.47-27.50) to win the 50-yard freestyle. Arrison turned the tables in the 200-yard freestyle, beating Hatch (2:17.40-2:18.29).

The 200-yard relay of Jensen, Sisley, Camacho and Hatch won the 200-yard relay with a time of2:01.65.

On the girls side, Lowry had three swimmers win individual events. Makenna Toland won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 32.59 and the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle (7:06.74). 

Tea Bengoa led the way in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:40.02 and placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (3:09.48).

Lizzie Harmon won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:12.91 and third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:35.16).

Aiden Peters earned two runner-up finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:31.19) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:16.76). 

Evie Morgan finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:43.15 and she was third in the 200-yard individual medley (3:23.72).

Mia Martinez (40.44), Caitlyn Peters (44.44), Alora McClure (47.47) and Camila Contreras (48.64), finished fourth through seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard medley relay of Contreras, Morgan, Peters and Martinez winning the 200-yard medley relay. Toland, Morgan, Bengoa and Harmon placed second in the 200-yard relay and Harmon, Peters, Bengoa and Toland won the 400-yard relay.

Lowry took on South Tahoe and Wooster this past Saturday and the Buckaroos travel to Fernley on Friday to dual North Tahoe and Fernley.
