A slow start to the season put the Lowry High School softball team behind the 8-ball in chase to get back to the postseason after playing in the 2023 3A state championship game.

In the past couple weeks, the Lady Bucks have hit their stride and will no be in the postseason after sweeping Dayton 18-2 and 15-0 on Thursday afternoon.

The final game of the series was postponed due to rain and was played Wednesday in Dayton.

Lowry will take part in a play-in game on Saturday, May 4, at the No. 3 West seed.

That opponent has not been determined as of press time. The winner of the play-in game advances to Spring Creek from May 9-11 for the remainder of the regional tournament.

The top two finishers in the East and West advance to Spring Creek and the regional tournament.


Lowry 18, Dayton 2

If you remember the 1999 NIKE commercial chicks dig the long ball, the Lady Bucks were digging the long ball in the first inning of Thursday’s opening game.

Lowry hit three home runs to score nine runs and cruised to the win. After an RBI-single by Savannah Stoker to score Adalyn Entwistle.

Maddison McClure in her final series at home, belted a three-run homer to give Lowry an 4-0 lead.  One batter later, fellow senior Bailey Peterson belted a home run over the center field fence.

The inning continued with RBI-doubles from Natayla Guizar and Entwistle and Stoker finished the frame off with a two-run shot, her 12th of the season and 52nd of her career.

Senior Hayden Case added a bases-clearing triple in the second inning for three RBI and a 15-0 lead. Lowry ended the scoring with a double from McClure and a two-RBI triple from Isabel Upton.

Stoker also earned the win, allowing no hits in the three-inning game. 

The two runs were unearned. She struck out four and walked one. 

Entwistle, Case and Peterson each had three hits and combined for five RBI and seven runs scored. Stoker was 2-for-2 with an intentional walk, three RBI and three runs scored. McClure added two hits and four RBI.


Lowry 15, Dayton 0

Stoker needed just 38 pitches (25 strikes) in the 15-0 win in the nightcap of the doubleheader. She allowed one hit, struck out four and walked one.

The Lady Bucks scored 10 runs in the first inning and closed out the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning with five more runs. 

Lowry had eight doubles in the game, including three from McClure. All three of McClure’s hits were doubles.

Case finished 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored and Entwistle, Stoker, Cambria Tisue and Liliana Aguilar each had two hits. Elisabeth George had one hit.
