Kenison, Aguirre set new school records at home invitational

It was a special day for two Lowry High School track and field athletes, as they set new school records during the Don and Lynda Walton Invitational on Saturday. 

Sophomore Brent Kenison won three individual events on the day, including setting a new school record in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. He also led the way in the triple jump with a mark of 43-8 and the high jump (6-0). Kenison was seventh in the discus.

Senior Nomar Aguirre looks poised to sweep the state title for the discus and shot put for a second straight year. 

Aguirre broke the school record in the discus with a toss of 168-3.5. He won the shot put with a mark of 54-1.

Kolby Hoagland won the 1,600 meters with a time of 5 minutes, 27.70 seconds, with Finn Baldwin, Lennox Zebroski, Jace Frydendall, Gabriel Hogue and Keatin Kenison fifth, sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th. Zebroski placed fifth in thew 3,200 meters and Hoagland was ninth in the 800 meters.

Ira Wadsworth (12-0) and Shane Gililland (11-0) placed second and fourth in the pole vault, while Timothy Patchen (18-9), Luke Fentress (16-11) and Jayden Howard (15-11) were second fifth and eighth in the long jump. Howard also placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 32-1 and Anthony Martinez (30-7) placed ninth.

Sophomore Jonathan Moser placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 129-8. Quade Altman ran 12.11 to finish fifth in the 100 meters and Rojelio Leon (12.21) was ninth, Leon placed sixth in the 200 meters and Altman was eighth.

For the Lady Bucks, junior Kepa Hilbish swept the top spots in the 100 meters (13.49) and the 200 meters (27.91). Alia Novi was the runner-up in the 100 meters (13.63) and third in the 200 meters (13.63).

Tariana Weatherspoon, Kaitlin Messmer and Vanessa Lott placed fourth, fifth and seventh in the 100 meters. Messmer finished fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 29.43, with Lott fifth and Adajah Milan ninth.

Freshman Alyla Thomas took of nearly 13 seconds to set a personal best in the 1,600 meters to win with a time of 5:31.19. She paced the field in the 3,200 meters as well at 13:04.60. 

Fellow freshman Ava Swensen finished third in the 1,600 meters (5:53).80) and third in the 3,200 meters (13:32,52. Junior Brooklyn Swensen was fifth in the 3,200 meters (14:23.92) and fifth in the 1,600 meters. Ava Swensen, Thomas and Brooklyn Swensen were third sixth and ninth in the 800 meters.

Kianna Head won a pair of events as well, jumping 4-10 in the high jump and she had a mark of 32-7 in the triple jump. The sophomore also placed second in the pole vault.

Kylee Wilkinson won the long jump with a leap of 14-0, the runner-up in the discus (86-10), fifth in the high jump and the sophomore was sixth in the triple jump (27-5). 

Ashlyn Bottoms won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-0.

Vanessa Lott and Amya Bates shared second-place in the high jump with a mark of 4-8 and Nevaeh was third in the pole vault (7-0). Hailee Gibson finished fifth in the shot put and sixth in the discus.

The 4x100 relay of Messmer, Milam, Hilbish and Novi won with a time of 53.52 and the same foursome won the 4x200 at 1:54.13.

The Lowry girls won the team title, with the boys finishing second. Lowry travels to Reed High School on Saturday for the Northern 3A trials. The Buckaroos qualified 49 athletes for the trials.
