BMHS collects three important road wins

It was a busy three days for the Battle Mountain High School softball team with five games in that span.

Battle Mountain hosted Pershing County on Thursday for a pair of games that was postponed early in April. The Mustangs remained perfect on the year winning 11-1 and 16-3.

In the opening game, Battle Mountain scored its lone run in the seventh inning and had two hits. Pershing County jumped out to a big lead in the first inning and completed the season sweep.

This past weekend, Battle Mountain traveled to West Wendover with Northern 2A playoff implications abound. The Wolverines held the fourth and final postseason spot by a game before the series but the Lady Longhorns swept all three games 13-6, 8-7 and 14-3 to improve to 8-7 in league play and in fourth place.

After trailing 2-1 after an inning of play, Battle Mountain scored five runs in the sixth inning and never looked back. Seven different Lady Longhorn players had a hit. Heidy Amezcua, Aspen Swanger and Paitynn Johnson split time in the circle. Halle Edgar drove in five runs and Stevlana had three RBI.


Battle Mountain 8, West Wendover 7

Ella Moore, Jazmin Johnson, Addison Matheus and Alissa Hienz each had two hits and Martinez led the way with three hits. Swanger threw the first 6.1 innings and Johnson finished out the contest. 

The Wolverines tied the game at 7-7 with four runs in the fifth inning, when the Lady Longhorns scored the winning run in the sixth on a single by Edgar, Johson led off the frame with a single and advanced to third on an error on the same play.


Battle Mountain 14, West Wendover 3

Battle Mountain usen an eight-run third inning to lead 11-2 in the series finale and never gave the lead up.

Johnson and Johns had three hits apiece and Thalia Gonzalez and Mattheus each had two hits. Swanger earned the complete-game win.

Battle Mountain travels to Yerington this weekend for a three-game series with the Lions.
